In accordance with the objectives of the National Science Technology and Innovation Plan (NSTIP), King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) created the Joint Centers of Excellence Program (JCEP) To provide a world-class venue for conducting research in different areas and technologies while enabling the Saudi researchers to become more and more technologically competitive as well as being a primary source for innovation and intellectual property generation in the Kingdom.
The National Science Technology and Innovation Plan (NSTIP) is the plan for putting into practice the National Policy for Science and Technology (NPST). This policy defines a growth curve for the Kingdom staggered over 4 five-year periods: laying the necessary foundations for developing science, technology and innovation; raising the Kingdom to the rank of regional leadership, elevating the Kingdom to the rank of leader of the Asian continent, and putting it on a par with the world’s greatest research nations.
The NSTIP’s design, with its direct research support programs, aim to strengthen the research system and specific program devoted to help Saudi society becomes a knowledge-based society in alignment with the overall objectives defined for the Kingdom.
The strategic development plans for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia call for shifting its economic focus from a resource-based economy to a diversified knowledge-based economy. The Kingdom is taking giant strides in this regards through numerous multifaceted initiatives targeting development programs in technology, engineering, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
