Adnan Alsaati

Adnan J. Alsaati is a Professional Consulting Engineer. He is currently a consultant and a deputy director of the Center of Complex Engineering System at KACST and MIT. Prior to joining CCES, he served for six years as advisor and member of the board at DCOMMM, a newly established governmental commission for developing the Master Plans of the cities of Makkah and Madinah and the Holy places in Saudi Arabia.

Alsaati received his undergrad education at King Saud University for the B.Sc. in civil engineering. He then went for graduate studies at Stanford University and the University of Michigan for a M.S. and Ph.D. in water resources and environmental engineering.

Alsaati has extensive professional expertise in research, academia, and consultation in the fields of water resources planning & management, environmental engineering and sustainable development. He served as a lecturer at the College of engineering, King Saud University, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses including system approach to water quality management and water resources planning. He then worked as Research Scientist at KACST and headed for many years the Water Technology and the Environment Research Programs at the Institute of Natural and environmental Resources. He completed as PI several research projects on water and wastewater treatment technologies, water reuse planning, and urban air quality monitoring, modeling and assessment.

Over a last 30 years, Alsaati served as technical advisor and consultant on wide range of issues to several national and international organizations including Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (MOMRA), Regional Water and Sewerage Authorities for Makkah and Qasim Regions, Ministry of Water and Electricity (MOWE), WHO (CEHA), ESCWA and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). He served as an elected member of board of directors of the Water Science and Technology Association, Bahrain during the period 1990-1994. He also served as member of Saudi Arabia official delegations to numerous international conferences and conventions on global issues including climate change and sustainable development. He contributed as official delegate to preparation of Agenda 21 document for the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Earth Summit) held in Rio in 1992. Currently, Alsaati is an advisor in the Minister Office of MOMRA and a member of the Advisory Panel of OIC Water Vision: a program for working together for a water secure future.

Alsaati is a winner of Al-Madinah Philanthropic Award for the year 2005 for his research work on development of membrane technology for wastewater treatment and reuse applications.
