The conversion of carbon dioxide into valuable chemicals is becoming increasingly important in fighting global warming. One of the projects in KOPRC I is the activation of CO2 and convert into syngas through dry reforming or hydrogenation into higher alcohols or hydrocarbons. The focus is on the novel catalyst materials development so as to decrease the activation energy and increase the selectivity. As such, processes that employ “sacrificial molecules” should be considered. Ideally, these will be catalytic in nature, leading to significant reductions in external energy inputs.
